As many studies have shown, a visit to the dentist can bring as much anxiety as a job interview or the birth of a child. For some people it can be quite stressful and we understand that well.
When you arrive at our office for your dental services, we want it to be a soothing and less stressful experience. It’s important for us to make it a positive experience for you. The first thing we do is to make sure you know that you are completely in control, and can stop and take a moment whenever you want.
In addition, our dentistry uses nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas” during many of our dental procedures, for patients who are still overly anxious. We attach a small mask over the patient’s nose. Almost immediately, the nitrous oxide will calm anxiety, raise the pain threshold, and allow the mind to think about other things. Time under the light may even pass quicker than usual.
Even though you are awake during the dental procedure, the nitrous oxide gas will help you remain calm and cognitive enough to answer any questions the dentist and staff may have. And as already mentioned, you will be incomplete control.
Once the appointment is done, you will return to breathing regular oxygen. All of the effects of the nitrous oxide will fade and you
can will automatically resume breathing normally again.
